Lets face it, most men like to buy lacy, racy underwear they want to see their partner wearing. But is that what's going to make the biggest hit with your woman? Not if the women we've talked to have anything to say about it!

Black-trimmed, scarlet 'sexy' underwear has it's place. It can be great fun as a treat. But if you want the woman you buy lingerie for to wear it for more than 10 minutes, you'd better take a look at the results of our survey. We asked women to tell us what they least wanted to receive and what they most wanted to receive as a present. Here's what they said:

Least Favourite Lingerie Present

1. Peep-hole bra and crotch-less knickers.
2. 'Cheap' scarlet with black lace.
3. Very bold fashion colours.
4. White, 'nude' and black (although black was OK with some).
5. Basque (unless you know exactly what size to get and she already has one - that she wears!).
6. Thong/string (unless she already wears them).

Most Favourite Lingerie Present

1. Matching sets (bra/brief or bra/brief/suspender).
2. Pretty lace, but not over done.
3. Best colours: coffee, burgundy, pastels.
4. Appropriate for her clothes. (tight clothes = smooth, matching colours, dressy for evening wear).
5. Good quality (brand name).

Best Styles And Products

1. Bra and brief set (with suspender belt if she wears stockings).
2. Balcony or other enhancing/flattering style (click here for descriptions of the different styles).
3. Camisole or other non-fitted item.

Getting The Right Size

Now you know what the perfect gift is, the next hurdle is getting the right size. You probably want this to be a surprise so, unless you already have your partner's exact measurements, you are going to have to be a bit sneaky - have a rummage in her drawers!

Bras: If you have underbust and bust measurements in either inches or centimetres use the Bra Sizing Wizard to find the right size. If not, take a look in her lingerie drawer. You will normally find a small tag with the bra size on (34D, 40F, etc). If the size is in metric only, use our conversion charts to get the right UK back size (use the same cup size). Take a look at a few bras and if there are several different sizes in bras that she wears regularly, note them all and the manufacturer for each. When you've selected your gift buy the size that she already wears from that manufacturer, or her most popular size.

Briefs, Suspenders: Checking the lingerie drawer is best. The tag will show either S, M, L...etc or a dress size 10, 12 , 14...etc. If you find metric sizes or measurements use our conversion charts to find the right UK size.

Bodies, Basques, Camisoles, Slips: These are either sized by bra size (bodies and basques) or dress size (camisoles and slips). Use the advice above for bra sizing. Take a look through her wardrobe to find her dress size. Remember, only take note of the sizes of the items she has been wearing recently!
