Calculating Your Bra Size

The system given below and used in our Fitting Room Wizard is accepted as the current industry standard in UK/Europe and is also widely recognised worldwide. Unfortunately the system was devised when women's body were an altogether different shape. The system is now effective for less than 50% of women!

The only sure way to get a bra that fits is to have a fitting with an expert. Even this process is as much about trial and error as following a system. It's just that the expert fitter has a much better idea of where to start and what adjustments to make in the sizes to get the best overall effect.

Try this measuring system first and compare the results with the size you are wearing now. The calculations use 2 basic measurements and are very straight forward. This is all done for you automatically with the Bra Sizing Wizard.

Measurements in Inches

Back Size.  Once you have your underbust measurement, rounded to the nearest inch, do the following:

If the measurement is an odd number - add 5 inches.

If the measurement is an even number - add 4 inches.

For example: Your underbust measurement is 31.3 inches. Rounded to the nearest inch gives 31 inches. This is an odd number, so add 5 inches. Giving a back size of 36.

Cup Size.  Cup size is found by taking the difference between your bust measurement, rounded to the nearest inch, and your back size and then comparing this to the table below.

For example: Your bust measurement is 41.7 inches. Rounded to the nearest inch gives 42 inches. Your back size was 36, so the difference is 6. From the table this gives an F cup. Your complete bra size is 36F. (see Notes below)

Measurements in Centimetres

Back Size.  Once you have your underbust measurement, rounded to the nearest centimetre, compare it to the table below to get your back size.

For example: Your underbust measurement is 79.4cm. Rounded to the nearest cm gives 79cm. From the table, this is between 78 to 82 giving a Metric back size of 80 and a French back size of 95.

Cup Size.  Cup size is found by taking the difference between your bust measurement, rounded to the nearest cm, and your Metric back size. Use the table below to find your cup size.

For example: Your bust measurement is 105.8cm. Rounded to the nearest cm gives 106. Your Metric back size was 80, so the difference is 26. From the table this gives an F cup. Your complete bra size is: Metric - 80F and French - 95F.

Notes:

If the size you found using this system is different from the size you wear now, only change your size if you are unhappy with the fit you have.

If you are unhappy with the fit you have, regardless of the results of this calculation, use the Best Fit Guide page to guide your size adjustments.

Just because you measure up to be a certain size does not mean that you will need that size from every manufacturer. Each manufacturer has their own individual interpretation of sizes and they have different ways of cutting the material to create the various styles. You will need to experiment with a new brand to find out how their sizes match to your body shape.
