Vital Statistics About Your Vital Statistics

  Is it just me, or are we all getting bigger by the moment? Well according to recently released research, it's definitely not just me.

  Women of today are outgrowing their mothers in every way, including being taller, heavier and having bigger feet. In the last 50 years the average woman has grown an inch taller, 14 pounds heavier and wears shoes one or two sizes bigger.

  Your bust is expanding at an even more alarming rate! One leading bra manufacturer claims that the average size has gone from 34B to 36C, or even 36D, in only the last 10 years. They are finding that more and more younger women are needing the fuller cup sizes - DD and larger.

  So are we more healthy, getting better nutrition and so getting bigger and stronger? Or are we just sitting around eating junk food and putting on weight?

  In my Grandmother's young days in the 1920's and 1930's the hardships of the depression, a more labour intensive lifestyle and generally poorer nutrition kept the women of the day trim. My mother endured rationing during and just after World War II. But by the time I was born in the 1960's life was changing rapidly.

  There was a greater choice of better quality food. Labour saving devices cut down much of the hard work around the house. People became less inclined to walk or cycle, preferring the freedom offered by having a family car, and increasingly two cars.

  Now our daugther, a child of the 80's and 90's, wouldn't be without her own car. She enjoys eating out, often burgers, fried chicken or pizza. And there is nothing in her life that means she HAS to do any physical work.

  Lifestyles have changed and eating habits have changed. We eat more fat, calories and convenience food, whilst spending more time in front of the TV and the computer! But for bra sizes I'm not sure that's the whole story.

  Selling bras over the past 5 years, the increasing demand for larger cup sizes has been very noticeable. Helping women to choose a well fitting bra, it was obvious to me that they were becoming better informed about getting the right size and much more accepting of being a bigger size.

  So perhaps the increasing sales of larger size bras has as much to do with finally admitting that we can't squeeze ourselves into the same bra size we did at 18, as it does with getting bigger. And from the selection of bras available at Double-D.com, it's clear that most manufacturers, particularly in the UK, have recognised this growing (pardon the pun) market.

  Today's woman is looking for a durable and comfortable bra of high quality, like the generations before. But that needs to be combined with style, fashion and colour to produce an aesthetically pleasing look.
