Achievement Through Investment
Investment in equipment and new
technology reached a peak in 1994 with the opening of three new production
units and spending of £11m.
Charnos took the lead in the U.K.
Knitwear industry by installing new Japanese Shima SES machines to produce
a wide variety of shaped fashion garments.
In Northern Ireland, investment
has created state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities for hosiery and
lingerie. Computerised pattern cutting for lingerie at Campsie and the
hosiery knitting plant at Strabane are outstanding examples of the latest
textile technology.
Achievement in Hosiery
The Charnos brand is prominent on
the hosiery counters of leading department stores and specialist shops.
We are also a major supplier of own-label hosiery to the most important
multiple retailers. The Charnos name has long been associated with the
finest tights and stockings, but Adria is also a large producer of socks.
Behind this lies the massive investment that has created one of Europes
most impressive hosiery manufacturing operations. In-house yarn texturising
facilities provide added versatility. Technologists and designers work
closely with fibre producers and machine builders to keep the company
at the leading edge of innovation.
Achievement in Lingerie
Charnos
Lingerie has an enviable reputation for elegant design, superb comfort
and outstanding quality. The Charnos brand is pre-eminent in Britain
and growing steadily in many foreign markets. Our talented designers
work with suppliers of fabrics and laces to create distinctive seasonal
ranges. In the factories, craftsmanship is reinforced by advanced technology.
Intricate applique lace work enhances the beauty of many styles while
strict quality control ensures the consistent, excellent fit which is
the hallmark of Charnos bras. The appeal of Charnos merchandise is supported
by creative advertising and extensive promotion.
Achievement in Knitwear
Charnos is a major supplier of Womens
and Mens jumpers, cardigans and other knitted garments to Marks
& Spencer, Britains leading retailer.
Our ability to offer a wide choice
is based on the varied skills of our workers and the versatility of
our knitting plants, which include both fully fashioned and V-bed machines.
Our designers travel the world to keep abreast of fashion trends, creating
large seasonal collections from which M&S make their selection.
The chosen styles undergo a rigorous testing procedure to ensure compliance
with the exacting quality standards for which M&S is renowned.
Achievement with People

throughout its history and our record of good industrial relations is
a source of pride.

at Ilkeston. Our Northern Ireland subsidiary, Adria, founded in 1961,
is the largest employer at Strabane, where we fulfil an important social
role in an area of very high unemployment.
Throughout the company. the importance
of design and the requirements of advanced machinery and information
technology create exciting opportunities for high-grade specialists
and capable managers.
Achievement in the Future

is confident of its ability to adapt to rapid change without compromising
the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of our business. Our policy
of continuous investment has placed the company in an enviable position
in the U.K. textile sector.
