Chantelle

The origins of Chantelle go back to 1876 when Monsieur Gamichon and his nephew Kretz - ancestor of the actual Company's president - developed a then new process to manufacture elasticised knit and woven fabrics by covering rubber with cotton yarns. They set off a mini revolution with the decision to insert elastic strips into corsets, thus providing the wearer with a degree of comfort they had never known before.

ChamadeIn 1948 the "Chantelle" brand was definitely launched with the production of the first stretch girdle, which fame owed much to the slogan "Chantelle - the girdle that never rides up".

In the sixties Chantelle extended production to bras and other lingerie products, acquiring an unquestionable experience in this field thanks to creative design, technology and professionalism. "Passionata" was launched in 1988 as the company's second brand. It aims at a younger customer while maintaining the same quality standards as Chantelle's. Thanks to both brand successes, Chantelle group has become the first lingerie producer in Europe. Chantelle factories produce daily, with more than 2500 employees, over 40,000 pieces which are sold world-wide.

Chantelle, a leading brand of lingerie in Europe

The first Chantelle girdle was launched in France in 1948 and was an immediate success. Chantelle's notoriety soon spread to other European countries. to enable other European consumers to have easier access to Chantelle's products, the first European Hedonasubsidiary was established in Germany in 1962. Thereafter a second subsidiary was set up in Belgium to cover the Belgian and Dutch markets in 1969. A third subsidiary in Switzerland was established in 1972, followed in the 1980's by Italy, the UK, Spain/Portugal. More recently a subsidiary has been set up in the USA and in Taiwan. Chantelle Taiwan is the first subsidiary of the group in Asia.

The "rest of the world" is handled by Export Department based in the company's headquarters in Paris. Chantelle Export has set up a network of agencies through the world and is actually working in more than 100 countries.

Major outlets for Chantelle's lingerie are prestigious department stores or selected boutiques. Over the last 10 years the annual turnover for Chantelle Group has doubled every 5 years. In 1997 the turnover of the group reached nearly 1 billion French Francs. Chantelle today is the number one brand in the selective distribution channel in the European market.
